ABOUT OUR MINISTRIES . . . Ushers Ministry was organized in 1928 under the leadership of Deacon Press Freeman. The ministry continues to be of service to the church family by serving as doorkeepers for church services and programs. The ministry is led spiritually in Scripture by the words of Psalm 84:10 (KJV) - For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. Ushers Ministry is a member of Ushers Union of Georgia, Inc. Senior Mission was organized in 1966. The ministry continues to share the word of Christ as it brings hope to members and citizens of the community by ministering to their needs. This includes the distribution of fruit and gift baskets to our healing and recovering members. In addition, the ministry sponsors an annual senior citizens luncheon for the church and community. The ministry is guided by Mark 16:15 (NIV) Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.
Spirit of Gethsemane was organized in 1976 and was so named because of its association with the bicentennial year. Its mission is to serve as a bridge between the community and church by providing assistance and being a ray of sunshine to those in need. The ministry is led spiritually by Psalm 41:1 (NIV) - Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the Lord will deliver him in time of trouble.
Youth Ministryhas been called to teach and train the youth of the church in God’s way. This is done through Scripture and precepts and enforced with loving discipline throughout the child’s upbringing. Youth Ministry strives to remind all that we are God’s property, so serve Him from the start of your years not the end of your years when service is very limited. The ministry’s Scriptural foundation is found in Proverbs 22:6 (NIV) - Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Health Ministry was organized October 2001. Health Ministry’s mission is to sponsor and support a variety of traditional and nontraditional educational programs and physical activities that are focused on fitness and faith. The ministry is led spiritually by I Timothy 4:7 - Discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness.
Music Ministry strives to enhance the quality of praise and devotion for all worshippers by ministering the Word through songs that bring glory to God and edify the body of Christ. In 1967, the Emma Steadman Inspirational Youth Choir was formed as a tribute to our dearly beloved Emma Steadman, a woman who praised God, loved singing and adored children. Music Ministry is composed of the following choirs: Sanctuary Choir, Men of Praise, Bridging the Gap, and Sons & Daughters of David. The ministry is led in spirit by Psalm 100:1,2 - Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
Audio-Visual Ministryoversees the recording of church services and special programs by ensuring smooth operation of sound system and related equipment. Through their technical skills the gospel is spread outside the walls of the church. Their spiritual compass is found in Psalm 141:6 – “…they shall hear my words; for they are sweet.”
Transportation Ministrystrives to serve as a means of transporting members safely to and from church-related events. Its mission is to be a bridge delivering to the house of God those wanting to hear the word of God. The ministry is led by Romans 8:38,39 – For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Deacons Ministry functions to provide pastoral support in all business matters of the church and spiritual support to the membership. Their guiding light is found in Acts 6:4 – But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.
Communications Ministry was established in October of 2014 to support the church by facilitating better communication among its members, staff and ministries; to keep the members informed and updated on all authorized information that is required for efficient operations; and to create a social media present that will expand the congregation of Gethsemane Baptist Church beyond its physical walls. Spreading the gospel message of Jesus Christ (Psalm 96:3, 2Timothy 3:16, Mark 16:15, Matthew 24:14). Program Committee & Hospitality Ministry "Committed to Serve" is its overall mission. The ministry's primary purpose is to provide generous and cordial reception of our guests and members by ensuring all events have a smooth order of service; and all refreshments are gracefully prepared and served. (Colossians 3:23-24).
